Details: As a senior leader within TCCS, this role requires a person who can inspire, energise, and positively influence team and individual outcomes. The Senior Director is responsible for managing all maintenance, inventory, and administrative staff and TCO resources assigned to and operating in the maintenance workshops, major unit overhaul and inventory management to meet daily service delivery requirements and outputs. In addition, the Senior Director is to ensure the maintenance workshops, major unit overhaul and inventory management functions and their services comply with legislation, regulation, policies, and procedures, particularly as they relate to transport operations, human resource and financial management, and all workshop-related physical assets are maintained in good repair, and a safe and clean state.

The primary responsibilities for this position are to:

  • Support the Executive Branch Manager, Planning and Delivery in the conduct of business operations and achievement of outputs. Oversee all maintenance activities including financial and performance reporting, business analysis, and monitoring, audit, and asset management.
  • Actively lead, support, and constructively contribute to TC Operations-wide outputs by setting a positive and inclusive leadership example across TC Operations.
  • Lead the maintenance workshops, major unit overhaul and inventory management by:
    • promoting high quality, responsive customer service principles, practices, and attributes
    • establishing sound working relationships with management, staff, and union delegates
    • managing the performance of and communication with all assigned staff
  • Develop, implement, and manage strategies to ensure effective governance and performance management of Strategic Fleet and Workshop functions.
  • Plan, manage and monitor performance of the maintenance workshops, major unit overhaul and inventory management against KPIs set by the Director, TCO for service delivery, WHS, human resource management, budget, and other performance targets.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with North and South Maintenance Managers and MUO Manager, plus the Senior Managers, Belconnen, and Tuggeranong Depots, to ensure consistency in governance and performance management across the three workshops and two depots.
  • Implement strategies, under limited direction, to improve the operation of the business.
  • Participate in TCCS, TC and TCO senior management teams to ensure effective, efficient, and consistent planning and operation of the business, with an ongoing focus on continuous improvement.
  • Participate in planning, consultation and implementation for the development and introduction of network changes.
  • Investigate complaints or non-compliance with legislation, regulation, policies, and procedures and implement process improvements and/or disciplinary actions.
  • Undertake incident control responsibilities and participate as a member of the PTO crisis management team.
  • Oversee the fleet operations asset management plan.
  • Provide strong and highly visible WHS leadership to engender a strong safety culture across the Strategic Fleet and Workshop functions and for staff in the conduct of duties. Actively participate in the PTO and Depot Work Health and Safety committees to monitor risks and ensure safe workplaces. Work closely with the Human Resources and Safety team, case managers and other rehabilitation providers to foster early return to work through effective management of injured staff.
  • Ensure the maintenance workshops, major unit overhaul and inventory management and other assigned staff comply with Government legislation and regulation, plus TCCS/TC/TCO policies and procedures particularly as they relate to transport operations, human resource, and financial management.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

Professional / Technical Skills

  • Planning, managing, and monitoring the performance of the maintenance workshops, major unit overhaul and inventory management against set KPIs for service delivery, WHS, human resource management, budget, and other performance targets.
  • Implementing strategies to improve the operation of the business.

Behavioural Skills

  • Proven staff management and counselling skills, preferably within an industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently lead and foster commitment to high quality customer service principles and attributes.

Compliance Requirements / Qualifications

  • Individuals on visas with Australian working rights are eligible to apply for temporary non-ongoing roles.

  • This position does require a pre-employment medical.
  • Drivers Licence (C-class) is mandatory.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in asset management, maintenance, business, human resource management or similar field are highly desirable.
