Details: BRANCH OVERVIEW

The Registrar’s Office (Magistrates Court) provides support to the Magistrates Court and the judiciary including exercising statutory powers of a registrar of the court and providing legal, policy and procedural advice.  The Magistrates Court registry provides high level administrative support to the judiciary in the performance of their roles, and to the parties and legal representatives who appear in the courts.

The Registrar’s Office (Magistrates Court) consists of the following sections:

  • Coroners (including Coroner’s Court and Forensic Medicine Centre)
  • Judiciary Staff (Associates to Judicial Officers)
  • Legal
  • Registry Operations

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Associate to the Registrar provides support for the Registrar, both in court and out of court as required, contributing to the efficient operation of the Magistrates Court.  The position fits within Criminal Registry and the role will work closely with the team, also providing support and administrative functions within the team.

The position provides in-court support and administrative services to the Registrar and court users and uses the Integrated Courts Management System (ICMS) to record and manage outcomes of matters, including producing and quality assuring orders and results.  The position is responsible for the administrative functions involved in preparing the lists and also includes post court follow-up of any actions required (preparation of documents for any reports ordered) and various other related administrative tasks.

The position is also required to handle sensitive and protected information and will be required to fulfil the role in line with legislation, policy, procedures and protocols, with maturity, sensitivity and compassion.  The position will need to embrace individual and cultural differences by displaying courteous, respectful, non-discriminatory behaviours in all activities.

The nature of this role is such that you will be exposed to sensitive material or information that may be confronting and culturally sensitive. The ACT Courts and Tribunal provides support services and training to assist staff in being culturally aware, resilient and safe in your workplace.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements: Compliance Requirements/Qualifications

  • Computer literacy skills are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for using an electronic case management system, IT systems, email and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
  • To be eligible for permanent or temporary employment within the ACT Public Service you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work visa.
  • If an officer no longer holds a visa that permits them to work in Australia, their employment with the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) will be terminated.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a National Criminal History check.
  • This position does not require a Working with Vulnerable People registration.
  • This position does not require a pre-employment medical
