Details: The ACT Government is seeking applications from experienced and skilled individuals to fill the vacant position of Deputy Chair of the ACT Long Service Leave Authority (ACT Leave) Governing Board.
ACT Leave is established under the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009 to administer the long service leave benefits schemes in the industries of building and construction, contract cleaning, community service, and security. From 1 April 2025, portable long service leave will be expanding to include hairdressing and beauty and food and accommodation services under the new Services Industry Scheme.
The Board convenes six meetings per year, with additional meetings as required. The Deputy Chair is also the chair of the ACT Leave Audit and Risk Committee established by the Board, which meets four times per year for a one-hour meeting immediately prior to the Board meeting and holds an additional meeting each year to review the financial statements.
The Deputy Chair is appointed on a part-time basis with remuneration of $30,900 per annum. The term of appointment is for up to five years. To be considered, applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Legislative knowledge – understanding of relevant legislation and ability to monitor and revise the effectiveness of accountability and governance arrangements within a statutory body.
- Financial acumen – understanding of financial statements, budget processes, investment markets, and financial management and planning.
- Governance – understanding of best practice governance, risk management, compliance, reporting and accountability.
- Strategic thinking and planning – ability to think strategically and provide direction and shape the future of the organisation.
- Scheme administration – understanding of the industries covered by portable long service leave, and
- experience on government boards or similar.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
The Deputy Chair is required to be an independent member and not a representative of an employer or employee group within the covered industries and will be required to declare any industry memberships/connections.
