Details: The Environmental Offsets team sits within the Parks and Partnerships business unit within the ACT Parks and Conservation Service (PCS). It is responsible for delivering environmental commitments linked with development approvals pursuant to the Commonwealth Government Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

The Offsets Program Officer provides governance, assurance, administrative, and strategic planning support to a team of ecologists, researchers, conservation planners, operational ground staff and managers. This role maintains oversight of EPBC Conditions of Approval and associated commitments that the teams are responsible for. It supports and advises PCS staff and executive on current and proposed offset sites regarding statutory obligations. The position also coordinates annual compliance reporting for ACT environmental offsets and contributes to strategic planning for new reserves with environmental offset commitments. Additionally, it provides administrative and project management support to the Environmental Offsets management team.

  • Knowledge of environmental offsets legislation, policies and processes as they apply to environmental approval processes and conservation land management in the ACT.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Sciences and Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Public Policy or other relevant fields
  • Willingness to undertake incident management duties, including participation in fire standby, fire suppression and fire training.

Notes: The ACTPS offers flexible working arrangements, including part-time hours and flexible start and finish times; this role may be required to work from a Parks Depot on certain days; ACTPS is an activity-based work environment.
