Details: The Parks and Conservation Service (PCS) is a Branch within the Environment Division of EPSDD and is responsible for planning and management of parks and reserves.  It protects and conserves the natural and cultural resources of the ACT, promotes appropriate recreational, educational and scientific uses of our national parks and nature reserves.

The Ranger in-charge, Canberra Nature Park North, directly supervises the operational field teams of General Service Officers and of Park Rangers, in the delivery of protected area management across the Canberra Nature Park estate of northern ACT.  The Canberra Nature Park North team sits within the broader Urban Reserves Management Unit incorporating Molonglo River Reserve, the Canberra Centenary Trail and the Urban Wildlife Program.

The position is outcome focused and works closely with the Area Manager in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of coordinated programs, adhering to the development of operational works and risk management plans.

The Ranger-In-Charge also maintains collegiate, effective and courteous relationships with all other stakeholders including volunteers, neighbours, other government agencies and members of the public.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

Highly desirable:

  • A degree in environmental management, protected area management, parks and recreation, natural resource management, or similar, with diversified experience of 5-8 years AND/OR equivalent associated natural resource management qualifications (eg. cert IV, associate diploma) and extensive experience in a relevant field.

Applicants are required to:

  • Be physically able and willing to undertake incident management duties, including participation in fire standby, fire suppression and fire training.
  • Be prepared to work a shift roster, weekends, public holidays or evening shifts at any site within a region on an “as needs” basis (not all positions are currently required to work a shift roster)
  • Be prepared to wear a uniform;
  • Have, or be able to obtain, a Working with Vulnerable People card
  • Possess a manual drivers’ license.
