The Placements and Referrals team within Information Resources and Referral is a key function and has responsibility to advise on available service and support that align to the presented and stated needs of families and individuals. The aim of the service is to provide referral consultation and coordination support to practitioners via a single point of access. The service will work collaboratively with its business partners across the service sector to build referrals pathways, progress requests in a timely manner and provide coordination and support for complex matters and alternative care arrangements.
The Referrals Officer provides support to the Assistant Director Referrals and the broader Placements and Referral Team for referrals coordination and support to practitioners for children and young people across the continuum of care with a significant focus on early intervention and preservation of families, while meeting our statutory obligations.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- Previous experience working within the human services sector, either in government or non-government sectors, is essential.
- Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role is desirable.
- Previous experience in data and spreadsheet management is desirable.
- An understanding of financial responsibilities both within a government context and with service providers is desirable.
- Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra (act.gov.au)
- Driver’s license Class C is essential.
Notes: A merit pool may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
As this role is likely to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, the capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable.
